About Big Bass Lake
Big Bass Lake is a seepage lake and depends on annual snow and rainfall to maintain its water level. In 2006 North Central Wisconsin experienced a drought pattern causing lake level to fluctuate and more shoreline to be exposed. Due to above average snow and rainfall in 2010-2011, Big Bass Lake levels have returned to normal at approximately 13 feet. The lake is aerated in winter to protect the fish population which are often located in central weed beds. The shoreline includes some lily pads, other aquatic plants, and cattails and varies from sand to soft sediment.
The shoreline at the rustic cabin is sandy and clean and ideal for swimming, jumping off the swim raft and tubing.
The shoreline at the stone house consists of soft sediment with aquatic plants and is not suitable for swimming. Guest families have use of a pontoon boat with gas for taking out into sandy areas in the lake.
Fish population includes bass, northern, walleye, bluegill, and crappie. The water is clear and suitable for swimming. Although motorboats are allowed, a local town ordinance allows speeds of greater than 10 mph only between the hours of 11:00am and 3:00pm.
Rustons prefer silent sports and do not allow jet ski/powered water craft at this time. All boaters are asked to protect Big Bass from invasive species, such as Eurasian milfoil and zebra mussels, by washing all plants off from boats, motors, and trailers, emptying all water from boats prior to launching, and never disposing of unwanted bait in or near the lake.
Big Bass is located halfway between Wausau and Stevens Point, Wisconsin. It's just 25 minutes to UW-Stevens Point, golf courses, bike trails, Granite Peak Ski Hill, and so much more!
